Balaklava Wednesday 21/6/17. Race 3: 1058m 2yo Maiden

PARIS CRYSTAL (1st) & BANCHORY’S CHOICE (2nd)

Good margins/overall time suggest this will be a strong form race going forward.. They’ve only gone about a length slower than the impressive winner of the open maiden He Is Golden, which is pretty decent for two-year-olds, even at this time of the season.

1st & 2nd cleared out from the rest.. Paris Crystal, having its first race start, let down like a nice horse in the straight & i expect there are more wins in store for it in the future.

Banchory’s Choice led & was edged out late, beating the rest easily & recording a career best rating at its 3rd race start.. If it repeats that performance, it won’t be a maiden for much longer

Morphettville Saturday 24/6/17. Race 5: 1050m Benchmark 90

CORE BREACH (4th)

Led them up on a day where horses on-pace/on-fence struggled & equalled the best result for a leader on the day when kicking in the straight & battling on well for 4th.. A good effort considering the bias, but also because he set the pace in a race where they’ve gone over 3L above par on provisional times, and, on top of this, he pulled up lame!

Expect a short break to recover from this, but he does tend to race well fresh.

Port Augusta Sunday. 25/6/17. Race 8: 1600m Benchmark 60

COPPER COAST RAIDA (5th)

Port Augusta usually favours on-pace runners but this was ridiculous.. Out of 8 races, the leader won 5, the death won 3, and every quinella was made up from the first 3 horses turning!

Copper Coast Raida was coming off a high rating 2nd to Triumphant One, but was set a task 200m up in distance racing wide without cover midfield & fought on well considering. The track bias being against it adds further merit to the run.. Would be hard pressed to find a less suitable set-up at its next start, so am expecting a better result.
